Work to End Hunger in the Upstate this Holiday Season
Greenville, SC — Dr. Ronald Wilson [http://www.greenvillesmiles.net/] and his dental practice, Greenville Smiles Family Dentistry, is helping to end hunger for Upstate families in need. For every new patient scheduled between now and December 31, 2011, Greenville Smiles will donate $15 to Harvest Hope Food Bank in Greenville. In addition, Dr. Wilson will match canned food donations can for can for patients and other members of the community that want to donate in-kind to Harvest Hope by bringing canned goods to his office.
According to Harvest Hope's website, a donation of $15 will feed a family for a whole week. Dr. Wilson believes we can all work together to make a difference in the lives of families who are lacking the basic necessities of life. Some of the items that are most needed include canned vegetables, canned meats and dry goods such as peanut butter and pasta, but also toiletries, diapers and detergent.
"We wanted to do something this year that could help make our community better, so creating a food drive for Harvest Hope seemed like the perfect gift," says Dr. Ronald Wilson. "We want to do our part to make sure everyone has something to smile about."

Dr. Ronald Wilson, DMD, Gets Great Results
with the E4D System
Here’s a great story that summarizes my
experience with the E4D System…
“I’ve recently had some issues with a
particular laboratory in that their margins
haven’t been great, and I’ve had to send a lot
back for remakes and the consistency just
hasn’t been there. Anyway, we were seating
a crown the other day and it went on
beautifully and when we were finished I
commented to my assistant, "finally they sent
me a crown with great margins." She then
delighted in telling me that we had made that
crown ourselves using the E4D System! I
simply had forgotten that I had designed it
and stained and glazed it myself a couple
days earlier! I will have to say it looked better
than anything that lab has sent me lately if I
do say so myself.”

Dr. Ronald Wilson, DMD, Is Now Offering Saliva DNA Tests
to Fight Gum Disease
Greenville, SC — Dr. Ronald Wilson is now using one of the most significant advances in dental medicine, a simple DNA test using saliva, to determine the specific type and quantity of disease-causing bacteria in his patients’ mouths. According to the American Dental Association, an estimated 75% of all Americans over the age of 35 have some form of periodontal disease1 and research conducted during the past 10 years has provided insight into the Oral / Systemic Connection and the link between chronic gum disease and heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and some forms of cancer2,3 . The detection and monitoring of these disease-causing bacteria is critical to treatment success.
These exciting new tests are for anyone with or without symptoms of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Symptoms may include bleeding gums, bad breath, red or inflamed gums, or loss of bone around your teeth. Other indications for this test are pretreatment clearance for extensive dental procedures and in some cases, surgical clearance (such as heart surgery or joint replacements). Both tests are performed by swishing a small amount of sterile saline throughout the mouth and for 30 seconds. The saliva sample is then sent to OralDNA Labs™, Inc. (www.OralDNA.com) for processing.
The MyPerioPathsm lab report identifies harmful bacteria associated with gum infections and helps Dr. Wilson develop a more effective treatment plan. Through this state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Wilson is able to treat the source of the infection and not just the symptoms. The goal of therapy then becomes to reduce the overall bacterial risk for disease progression. As with most diseases, earlier and more targeted treatment can help stop periodontal disease before irreversible damage occurs. These saliva DNA tests are also helpful in early identification of human papilloma virus (HPV), which is increasingly common and has been linked as a risk factor for oral cancers in both men and women.
In addition to this bacterial DNA test, Dr. Wilson also offers a genetic susceptibility test, called MyPerioIDsm PST® that will reveal if your genetic makeup puts you at greater risk for developing gum tissue infections. This test gives better insight into how an individual’s immune system will respond to the presence of harmful bacteria further enabling Dr. Wilson to optimize therapy.
